XCOM: Enemy Unknown: Head-to-head Multiplayer announced

I know I'm late on my news updates today. That is only because I had the privilege of testing the upcoming XCOM: Enemy Unknown for myself at Take-Two's office. This morning, they have made it official that the game will feature a one-on-one deathmatch multiplayer mode and it is nothing short of awesome.

The game will be a turn-based strategy game with a lot of indepth tactics required. While playing against another player, it took me no time to realise how important positioning your troops, knowing what their advantages are and even knowing what sort of equipment to bring played such a crucial role in winning a proper round. If you're thinking that XCOM would be more fun had it been an RTS game, you are so wrong. VERY WRONG.

In the new multiplayer feature, players will not only be able to pick a squad of soldiers and fit them with all sorts of equipment, but they will get to take command of the aliens as well. Furthermore you can mix and match aliens with humans to bring a variety of tactics into the battlefield.

“Throughout the history of the XCOM series, players have acted as the world’s last hope against the alien invasion,” said Jake Solomon, lead designer of XCOM: Enemy Unknown. “With the multiplayer mode in XCOM: Enemy Unknown, gamers can finally find out what it’s like to command alien units and unleash extraterrestrial destruction on Planet Earth or defend it with a squad of XCOM soldiers and alien allies.”

XCOM: Enemy Unknown will be released on the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 in October 12, 2012, and will come with a special edition or standard edition.
