First Impressions: Red Dead Redemption

By a stroke of luck, the game came early into the office, and I personally, jumped at the chance to give it a try. As a kid, I've always wanted to be a cowboy(yes even writers have had childhood fantasies), and thanks to the brilliant minds behind the Grand Theft Auto series, I live that dream today, in sheer high definition.

The game begins with you riding on a train, and as the silent cowboy you are, listening to the chatter and gossip of America's Industrial revolution spreading into "uncharted" territory, brings out the Wild West feel.

As soon as you take over the controls, you'll find it strikingly similar to the Grand Theft Auto series, but with some improvements in subtle but otherwise important ways. To drive the point in, of how great this game is, they've got the control scheme right, gameplay elements up one notch from other sandbox titles, a great story and a sizable multiplayer suite. This makes Red Dead Redemption something very special.

On the XBOX 360, this game looks amazing. Shadow renderings, color, sunlight, and textures feel right as rain. Panoramic scenery lay abundant in this game, and despite the obvious indications of it being re-used textures, "it still looks darn cool"(according to Ender).

We've only been four hours into the game, and its hard to keep everyone off the controller. We're excited to see what Red Dead Redemption still has to offer, and if you're looking to live out your cowboy fantasies, or are simply looking for a game to tide through what seems to be a dry game period. This is your answer!
